Working with External Partners

Through engaged research and teaching, HaSS Cornwall academics enthusiastically collaborate with a range of local and global partners to generate positive social and environmental impact, including Business and Community partners. HaSS Cornwall sits at the beating heart of a campus with a strong civic mission, and our partnerships play a vital part in building a better Cornwall and a better world.

Our researchers and lecturers work with local communities, small and medium enterprises, large corporations, local, national and supranational governments, international organisations, museums, heritage and cultural institutions, policymakers, political parties and pressure groups. Examples include the European Parliament, BT, the Imperial War Museum, the Eden Project, the National Maritime Museum, Kresen Kernow, the National Association of Local Councils, and Greenpeace.

Anchored in initiatives like the Institute of Cornish Studies, our locally-focused engagement and partnerships are driven by a desire to help Cornwall’s businesses, workers and civil society prosper at a crucial point in the Duchy’s industrial and political story.  Our global Cornish diaspora also help us to explore critical world-wide questions of post-mining, the environment, and rurality in locations such as the US, Australia, and Mexico.

Meanwhile, via other international collaborations like the People & Mining Network and the Centre for Environmental Arts & Humanities, the world-leading expertise of our academics confronts and addresses the global challenges that we share in common, from the climate crisis to digital transformation and systemic competition.

Through a host of exciting degree opportunities including business hackathons, Public History projects and industry placements, our excellent connections with external partners empower students to bolster their skills, networks and employability. These collaborative links also mean our external partners benefit from access to the energy and insights of HaSS Cornwall’s creative, socially committed and environmentally savvy students.
