Dr Misan Afinotan

Misan Afinotan is a Lecturer in Law (Education & Research) at the University of Exeter Law School (Cornwall Campus). He joined the law school in September 2022, where he teaches and researches broadly in the areas of environmental law, environmental justice, socio-ecological resilience, climate change law, climate resilience and climate justice. He is a part of the Exeter Centre for Environmental Law (EXCEL) and works closely with the Environment and Sustainablity Institute (ESI) in research collaborations. Prior to joining the University of Exeter, Misan was a doctoral candidate and associate lecturer at the University of Dundee Law School. His core approach to environmental law research is interdiscplinary, fusing theory and praxis from political science, environmental politics, political philosophy and African legal theory to explore the linkages and intersections betweeen environmental justice and resilience.
Misan holds a PhD in Law from the University of Dundee (2022), LLM (University of Ibadan, Nigeria), LLB (University of Benin, Nigeria), and BL (Nigerian Law School). He is a qualified (non-practising) Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Currently, he is a member of the Exeter Centre for Environmental Law (ExCEL), an affiliate of the Exeter Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI) and a co-convener of the Dundee Africa Research Network (DARN).
